FOOD, FEED, CHEMICAL & AGRI MANUFACTURERS, NOW IT'S TIME TO...
Send a photo of your packaging line on WhatsApp and we'll come back inside 48 hours with three quotes. Refurbishment, replacement, and a recommended parts list. Locked in Rand. No re-quote when the Rand moves.
3 quotes returned in 48 hours
Most production managers and FDs already know the European OEM model has stopped working in this country. They just haven't decided what to do about it yet.
This page is written for you if any of the three things below have happened to your business in the last six months. If they have, the rest of this page is worth reading. If none of them apply, you are probably not the right buyer for what we do.
You recently asked a European OEM to quote a new Form, Fill & Seal line and the answer came back with the words "ex-works week 28," "subject to forex movement," or "spare parts on a 14-week lead time." The quote was technically correct but operationally unworkable. You have been sitting on it for weeks because there is no good answer.
A machine on your line went down in the last six months and you spent more time on the phone with a technical desk in Munich, Bologna or Stuttgart than you did getting the line running again. The fault code was identified inside an hour. The part took four weeks to land. The line was idle the whole time.
Your FD has flagged that the Rand-Euro on a quote you signed off six months ago has since moved against you to the tune of seven figures. The capital expenditure budget is already approved. The price on the actual invoice will not be the price the board approved. You are now in the awkward conversation about why.
If any of this is familiar, take 8 minutes and read the rest. Then decide if it's worth a WhatsApp message.
Most production managers can quote it almost to the rand. Sugar mill packing line, mid-volume, four SKUs running: roughly R 18,000 to R 35,000 per hour of unplanned downtime once you factor in lost output, idle labour, missed despatch slots and customer credits.
Poultry IQF line: north of R 50,000 per hour. High-throughput animal feed bagging: R 25,000 to R 45,000 depending on shift pattern.
That's the direct cost. It does not include the meeting at 7am the next morning. It does not include the customer phone call about the missing PO. It does not include the maintenance manager being woken up at 2:14am because the imported Italian filler tripped its servo and the controller is throwing a fault code nobody on site has ever seen before.
The OEM technical desk opens at 9am Central European Time. The on-site engineer waits 7 hours. Fault code identified. Replacement part in stock in Bologna. Lead time including air freight and clearance: 4 weeks. The line stays down for 4 weeks.
Multiply by the hourly figure above. That is the hidden line item every South African manufacturer is quietly carrying. It is not in the budget. It is not on the P&L. It just shows up as missed margin every quarter.
For thirty years the equation was simple. If you needed a serious Form, Fill & Seal line, you bought European. Bosch, Ishida, Ilapak, Statec Binder, GEA, Bossar. You paid the premium. You got a machine that lasted decades.
That equation broke. Three things broke it.
This is not a complaint. This is just the math. The model that worked in 2010 stopped making sense in 2024 and is actively losing money for South African manufacturers in 2026.
There are a handful of other Form, Fill & Seal manufacturers in South Africa. We know all of them. We have respect for most of them. Several build solid machines. But the model is broken in the same way for a different reason.
So the buyer ends up in the worst of both worlds. Long lead times from Europe, or unpredictable lead times from a local supplier who quotes in Euros anyway.
That gap, between the certainty European OEMs used to deliver and the certainty no local supplier currently provides, is the gap RTLL Trading was built to close.
There is a quiet shift happening in the South African manufacturing belt right now. The producers who saw the European OEM model break first, in 2023 and 2024, have already moved.
They have already specified Festo and Siemens components their maintenance teams know. They have already built spares relationships with local OEMs. They have already locked in Rand pricing for their next 12 to 24 months of capacity.
The producers who haven't moved yet are now in a worse position. The lead times have grown. The Rand is weaker. The next round of European quotes will land 4 to 6 percent higher than the last.
This is not urgency theatre. There is no countdown timer at the bottom of this page. The clock is just real. Capital equipment decisions made in 2026 will define operational capacity through 2028 and 2029.
This is not a cheap version of a European machine. This is a machine engineered around three commitments European OEMs structurally cannot make and most local OEMs functionally do not.
Not "ex-works." Not "subject to delays." Running on your line. 12 to 16 weeks for a standard custom VFFS or HFFS. Refurbs in 4 to 6 weeks. Lead time committed in writing.
The price you sign on day 1 is the price your CFO pays on day 90. No re-quote. No forex adjustment. Rent-to-own and in-house finance also structured in Rand.
Standard Festo, Siemens and SEW components stocked 15 minutes from KZN's manufacturing belt. Same-day callouts in KZN. 24 hours to Gauteng. No air-freight.
Three quotes back in 48 hours. Refurbishment, replacement, parts list. Locked in Rand.
RTLL Trading is a family-owned manufacturer of custom Form, Fill & Seal machinery, refurbishments, auxiliary equipment and parts, based in New Germany, KwaZulu-Natal. The business was established in 2018, built around a team and partner network with 40 years of collective FFS engineering experience across the South African industrial sector.
That distinction matters. We are not a young company finding its feet. We are an established team operating under one focused, properly capitalised business since 2018.
We are run by engineers, not salespeople. Johan Cronje, our director, takes the calls when machines go down. He signs off every quote that leaves the building. He walks every factory visit personally. If something is broken at 2am on a Sunday, he is one of three numbers on the call sheet.
We get deeper into one category, not wider into many. Custom new builds. Refurbishment of any-OEM machinery. The auxiliary equipment that surrounds an FFS line. We do not chase work outside that specialism. We get more useful inside it.

Most buyers are sceptical of a 12-week lead time on the first read. That's fair. Below is what happens during those 12 weeks, week by week, so the timeline stops being a marketing line and starts being a project plan.
You send your product, packaging material and target throughput on WhatsApp. We come back in 48 hours with three quotes and an initial spec proposal. Sign off and the 12-week clock starts.
Mechanical and electrical drawings finalised. Standard Festo, Siemens, SEW and frame steel ordered. All locally available, all stocked.
Frame fabrication, mechanical mounting, controls panel assembly, schematic wiring, PLC and HMI programming for your line's process flow.
FAT in our New Germany factory. You attend. You bring your maintenance manager. Sample product runs through the machine. Sign-off only when the FAT passes.
Delivered, installed, commissioned, operators trained on-site. Machine running, signed off, producing.
We don't ask for a 10-field form. We don't gate a download behind a phone call. We don't run a 30-minute discovery call before you can find out what something costs.
You send a photo of your current packaging line on WhatsApp. Broken, slow, end-of-life, or just due for an upgrade. Within 48 hours, three things land back in your inbox:
What we'd strip and rebuild on your existing machine. Parts list, Rand price, target back-in-production date. Often a third of the cost of replacement.
New custom-built machine designed around your product, packaging material and throughput. Lead time committed in writing. Price locked in Rand at order date.
What we'd suggest stocking on your shelf to keep the line running. Festo, Siemens, SEW. With Rand prices and same-day-callout availability noted.
The three quotes laid out together so your CFO and maintenance manager can see exactly what each option costs, what it takes, and what it solves. No sales call required.
You decide which makes sense. Most customers find the comparison itself is the most valuable part. Refurbishment is often a third of the cost of replacement, and a fifth of the cost of an imported new build.
Get 3 Free QuotesWe need three things to quote: your product, your packaging material, your throughput target. A photo of your existing line if you have one. Nothing else.
We are not going to put four anonymous testimonials and a stock photo of someone in a hard hat at the bottom of this page. The proof in this category is different.
40 years of collective FFS engineering experience. The team behind RTLL has been designing, building and servicing Form, Fill & Seal machinery for South African manufacturers for four decades. The business was established in 2018 to consolidate that experience under one focused brand.
5 named anchor customers. Kelpack, Sovereign Foods, Irvin & Johnson, Royal Tea Packers, and Natal Associated Chemicals (Dekade Paints) currently run RTLL machinery. These are among the largest packers in their categories in South Africa. Reference site visits and reference customer calls can be arranged for serious enquiries.
Refurbishment lead times in days, not weeks. Most refurb quotes returned within 3 working days. Most refurb work back in production in 4 to 6 weeks from order. Where the existing machine is in good frame condition, full rebuilds delivered in under 3 weeks.
Custom builds & refurbishments · in-house FAT · standard Festo / Siemens / SEW
Every operations director thinks they're the economic buyer on a capital purchase. They're not. The maintenance manager is. Capital equipment that the maintenance manager cannot service at 2am on a Sunday gets rejected, slow-walked, or quietly replaced inside 18 months.
This is the part of the buying conversation most OEMs do not understand. We do.
This is the kind of operational reality that does not show up in a glossy brochure. It shows up at 2am on a Sunday when the line is down and the call list is open.
Most buyers find us through one specific need. A new line. A broken machine. A spec no other supplier could meet. Below is the full range, so the decision can be made with the full picture.
Vertical and horizontal lines for granules, powders, liquids and pastes. Spec'd to your product, your bag, your throughput.
Any-OEM, any-age, any-condition. Bosch, Ishida, Ilapak, Statec Binder, GEA, or local builds.
The only local OEM building wash-down rated FFS enclosures. IP65+. 304 / 316 stainless. Retrofits onto imported machines too.
Shrink tunnels, conveyors, sachet machines, semi-auto cartoners, forming shoulders, custom collators, line automation.
Genuine Festo, Siemens and SEW parts stocked in New Germany. Walk-in trade counter. Same-day callouts in KZN.
We do not ask buyers to sign a six-figure capital purchase order on the basis of a sales conversation. Every quote and every machine carries written commitments. They are not buried on page 14 of a contract. They are on the front page of the quote.
Against faulty workmanship from date of despatch. Subject to scheduled servicing intervals stipulated by RTLL and maintained by a qualified technician. Standard across every machine we build.
If the machine does not meet the throughput, accuracy or reliability stated in the spec, you do not pay full price. Terms and conditions apply, documented on the front page of the quote.
Every custom build runs a sample of your product on our factory floor before we send it to your line. You attend. You bring your maintenance manager. Sign-off only when the FAT passes.
We will introduce you to a current RTLL customer in your industry, on the phone or on a plant tour, before you commit. Available for any serious enquiry.
Most South African manufacturers prefer to arrange asset finance through their existing provider. We work with whichever provider you bring. We routinely invoice through Sasfin, Merchant West and WesBank deals.
For customers who prefer a different structure, we can also arrange:

No mystery. No "we'll be in touch." Below is the exact sequence, from the moment you send the photo to the moment the machine is producing on your floor.
You message 076 975 7583 with a photo of your line and three details: your product, your packaging material, your throughput target. Nothing else. No 10-field form. No discovery call required.
Within 48 working hours, you receive a refurbishment quote, a replacement quote, and a recommended parts list. All in Rand. All with written lead times. Side-by-side so your CFO and maintenance manager can compare them directly.
If the quote shape works, we walk through the spec on a call or you walk our factory in New Germany. Bring your maintenance manager. Pressure-test the build. Meet Johan. Most factory visits are scheduled within a week.
You sign off the spec. The price is locked in Rand. The lead time is committed in writing. Drawings finalised in week 1 to 3, build runs week 3 to 9, FAT in week 9 to 10, despatch and install week 10 to 12.
Machine commissioned, operators trained, FAT signed off. 12-month workmanship guarantee active. Spares already in our New Germany store. Same-day callouts in KZN. The engineer who built your machine is one phone call away.

P.S. The single biggest mistake South African manufacturers are making in 2026 is treating capital equipment timing the way they treated it in 2018. The lead times are not coming back to where they were. The Rand is not stabilising. The European parts shelves are not refilling.
The producers getting in front of this are the ones who will have throughput, margin and operational predictability locked in for the next five years. The producers deferring the decision will be quoting at 2027 prices, on 2027 lead times, with 2027 forex risk, for the same machine they could have signed off this quarter.
Send the photo. We will quote in 48 hours. The 48 hours costs you nothing. Not quoting costs more every week.
Yes. Every quote we issue carries the lead time on the front page, in writing, with the order date as the start point. The 12-week clock starts the day spec is signed off and the deposit clears. If we miss the committed week of running on your line, the workmanship guarantee terms compensate accordingly. Refurbishments typically run 4 to 6 weeks. Custom new builds run 12 to 16 weeks depending on complexity.
Yes. Any-OEM, any-age, any-condition. We strip, rebuild, retrofit and recommission imported and local-built FFS machinery. Where the original frame is sound, we typically rebuild around it using standard Festo, Siemens and SEW components your maintenance team already knows. Where the controls platform is end-of-life, we replace it with an open, schematic-documented Siemens setup so the next failure is a phone call, not a freight booking.
Every quote is denominated in South African Rand. The price you sign on day 1 is the price your CFO pays on the final invoice on day 90 or day 120. There is no forex re-quote clause. There is no Euro-linked component. We hold our supplier risk on long-lead items at order date, not at despatch date. The same applies to our in-house finance and rent-to-own structures.
Every custom build is run on our New Germany factory floor before despatch, using a sample of your actual product and your actual packaging material. You attend in person, with your maintenance manager. We test throughput against the spec, accuracy of fill or count, sealing quality, controls behaviour under load, and emergency-stop response. Sign-off only happens once the FAT passes against every line item on the spec sheet. If it fails, the machine doesn't leave the factory.
Yes. We are the only local OEM building wash-down rated FFS enclosures, drainage and sealing to IP65 and above. Stainless 304 or 316 frame and surfaces. We also retrofit wash-down compliance onto imported machines that were not originally rated for the application, which is structurally cheaper than replacing the whole line.
Yes. Most of our customers route through Sasfin, Merchant West or WesBank, and we invoice cleanly against those structures. For customers who want a simpler in-house route, we offer Rand-denominated finance built around the deal and the customer's cash flow, and a rent-to-own structure with monthly payments offsetting the eventual purchase price. Talk to Johan about which structure suits your CFO.
No. Every machine carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee from the date of despatch, plus a money-back performance guarantee against the spec. Spares for every machine we build are stocked in our New Germany store. Same-day callouts in KZN. 24-hour parts despatch to Gauteng. The engineer who built your machine is a direct phone call away, not a ticket in a call-centre queue.
Refurbishment is a strip-and-rebuild on your existing machine, typically a third of the cost of a full replacement and a fifth of the cost of an imported new build. Replacement is a new custom machine designed around your product, your bag and your throughput target. Most customers find the comparison itself is the most valuable part of the 48-hour audit, because it shows whether the existing frame is worth keeping or whether the cost of patching has finally exceeded the cost of a new line.
